- Captain or officer responsible for passage plan identified.
- Update completed at a time that does not interfere with safe navigation.
System identity
- Primary ECDIS make, model and location recorded.
- Backup ECDIS or approved backup arrangement recorded.
- Route planning workstation recorded where used.
- ECDIS software or system version recorded where available.
- Chart supplier or service account recorded.
- Licence, permit or subscription owner recorded.
Chart and permit update
- Update source verified: official chart supplier, approved media, online service or service provider.
- Permit or licence file checked.
- Required ENC coverage checked for planned route and alternates.
- Base cells loaded where needed.
- Latest updates applied.
- Update status screen, log or report stored.
- Any missing cells, expired permits or warnings recorded.
Route and user data backup
- Active route name and version/date recorded.
- Alternative routes recorded where applicable.
- Route exported or backed up.
- Backup route loaded onto backup ECDIS or backup arrangement where applicable.
- User chart objects, mariner notes, no-go areas and manual marks backed up where supported.
- Safety contour, depth settings and cross-track limits reviewed by responsible bridge officer.
Display and route check
- Own-ship position checked.
- Planned route displayed correctly.
- Route check completed and reviewed.
- Safety contour and relevant warnings reviewed.
- Overscale, no-ENC, display-library or compatibility indications checked.
- Day, dusk and night palettes checked where useful.
- Backup ECDIS or backup arrangement checked for equivalent route and coverage.
Defects and closeout
- Open warnings or unresolved items recorded in plain language.
- Immediate operational control measure recorded where chart coverage or backup is degraded.
- Vendor, chart supplier or bridge electronics follow-up assigned where needed.
- Bridge log, PMS, SMS or defect system updated where required.
- Evidence stored in agreed bridge or technical records location.
- Captain or responsible officer acknowledgement recorded where needed.
