Immediate response
- Confirm blackout, partial blackout, shore-power trip or generator trip.
- Notify bridge or duty officer immediately.
- Check crew safety, smoke, fire, flooding, electrical smell and machinery casualty.
- Confirm emergency lighting, emergency power and critical alarms.
- Do not reset alarms before evidence is captured where safe.
Stabilise essential services
- Identify running generators, stopped generators, breaker positions and busbar state.
- Confirm steering support, navigation support, communications, alarms and bilge/fire monitoring.
- Restore essential loads before hotel or guest comfort loads.
- Avoid repeated generator start or synchronisation attempts without cause.
- Keep the bridge informed of what is unavailable and what is restored.
Evidence capture
- Record time, location and operating mode.
- Photograph generator, PMS, switchboard and UPS alarms.
- Record source status, load state and breaker positions.
- Record load-restoration sequence and crew actions.
- Export logs where possible before normalising.
Closeout
- Hold a post-event review before closing the defect.
- Identify cause, corrective action and test evidence.
- Check UPS battery state after the event.
- Update blackout drill or recovery sequence if the event exposed a gap.
