Recent superyacht technology coverage shows how quickly onboard IT is converging. Videoworks presented AV, generative AI, onboard security, and multi-network connectivity as parts of one integrated yacht experience at Monaco Yacht Show 2025. This is exactly where large-yacht IT is heading.
The yacht network is no longer only a route to the internet. It is the control surface for entertainment, guest comfort, security sensors, crew workflows, remote support, cloud accounts, owner devices, and increasingly AI-assisted services. When those systems are designed independently, the result is usually duplicated hardware, unclear support boundaries, and difficult troubleshooting.
The better model is to treat the vessel as a managed digital platform. That means agreed network zones, documented IP addressing, named system owners, role-based access, standard naming conventions, remote support procedures, and a live change log whenever vendors modify the installation.
This also changes the role of the ETO or AVIT engineer. The most valuable person onboard is not only the one who can restart a controller. It is the person who understands how a guest-facing fault might flow through Wi-Fi, switching, DNS, cloud authentication, an AV processor, and a vendor remote session.
